Paçoca (pah-so-kah) is a popular Brazilian snack. In the Tupi language, it means "to crumble" and originally referred to the preparation of meat and flour with a wooden pestle.
Peanuts were added to the recipe due to their high nutritional value and filling properties. Sugar and salt eventually replaced meat and flour. A sweet treat for children of all ages, paçoca is now an integral part of everyday Brazilian life.
