The name "Balas de Coco" roughly translates to "coconut balls." Although the name suggests they're hard as balls, the opposite is true. They melt in your mouth! The traditional Bala de Coco is made with very few, very simple ingredients, such as desiccated coconut and sugar.
The true quality, flavor, and melt-in-the-mouth texture come from stretching and kneading the dough over an extended period of time. This is time-consuming and strenuous, but that's the tradition!
